A rescue dog needs time to land. Think days, weeks and months rather than an instant fit.
Many rescue dogs are stressed in a new home and do not show their true personality at first. Keep things calm: a quiet place to rest, short walks on the same routes, few visitors and a predictable routine. Use a secure harness and lead, because newly adopted dogs often try to run off.
Over the first weeks you will learn what the dog loves, fears and finds hard. Start the training basics with rewards, introduce new people, places and animals gradually, and do not expect perfect house manners straight away.
Book a vet check soon after the adoption, and ask the rescue or the previous owner for the vaccination record and any known health problems. Add everything to the dog's profile in the app so it is all in one place.
