A written contract, a vet check and honest matching protect the puppy, the buyer and you.
Puppies should be at least eight weeks, vet-checked with certificate, ID-marked, dewormed and vaccinated per local practice, and registered with the kennel club where applicable. Insurance cover during the transition protects everyone.
Use a written purchase agreement covering price, health disclosures, hidden-defect responsibility and any breeding terms. Walk the buyer through it calmly — a good contract prevents conflicts rather than winning them.
Interview buyers about experience, time and expectations, and dare to say no when the match is wrong. Send the puppy off with food, routines, its socialization log — and stay reachable; good breeders are a lifelong resource.
